Guitar Chords To Download
By Ricky Sharples
If you are a beginner guitar player you will be looking for guitar chords to download because the whole new language of majors and minors and barre chords and sharps and flats is just too confusing. It seems so much simpler to just download the charts for every guitar chord known to man and just look up any chords you need. You don't really need to look for ALL guitar chords to download because the fact is, you will learn very quickly that, unless you are learning to play jazz guitar, you will only need to learn a very limited range of chords. As you learn more about playing the guitar you will learn that you can divide your chords into groups called "chord families". Just like a human family, a chord family is a group of chords that make beautiful music together. It is better to learn chords in families because then you can quickly learn to put the chords together in songs. So now you know that there are groups of chords that go well together. If you are playing a song in the key of A, your basic chords will be A D and E. If you are playing in the key of D you will need the chords E minor, G and A. In G your chords will be G, A minor, C, D and E minor. Finally, you will be using the chords C, D minor, E minor, F and G if you want to play in the key of C. The next piece of information you need is that a great chunk of modern music only uses three chords. Not the SAME three chords but three chords based on the key the song is in. So what you do now is start learning the chords in the families I outlined above, and at the same time look for songs that use some of these chords. You will find that most songs only use groups of three chords. Now that you have a little knowledge, let's get back to the subject of looking for guitar chords to download. You now have a list of chords that you will probably be using most: A, A minor, C, D, E, E minor, F and G. You will be learning your chords in the first position on the guitar, that is, within the first three frets. These are called "open chords" because they do not involve the guitar player placing his first finger across the fretboard in a "bar". Bar chords can be played up and down the guitar's neck and add to your versatility as a guitarist, but there are technical challenges in learning barre chords, so we learn the open chords which use some open strings plus some notes that are fretted by the fingers. So if you want to find guitar chords to download, look for open chords at first and stick mostly to the list of chords above. Once you have a month or so guitar practicing under your belt and some understanding of chords, you can start finding charts for barre chords to download.
